Anyone who knows me knows that if I were a shoe I would be a Flip Flop, (heeled ideally). It’s been my signature shoe for 5 years after I purchased my first pair of Simon Miller Beep Thong in Black.
In the space of 1 week, Phoebe Philo and Loewe shared a picture of their take on the heeled Flip Flop, and both couldn’t be more me if they tried.
A wedged heel for Phoebe Philo, with nice skinny suede straps. Extra perverse!
There’s something about toe cleavage and the strap between the toes that is just so sexy. I love how versatile they are too, I have worn mine to the beach, to run errands, to go out-out, to work, to dinner and basically everywhere. A sensible heel height is mandatory, if you’re not going for a flat. The point here is to be comfortable and I think a kitten heel on a Flip Flop is just extra C-U-N-T-Y.
Over the years, I started building a mini collection to fit different needs and occasions. Proving again how versatile Flip Flops, truly are. I have been disappointed a few times, like when I purchased the Ginza style from The Row, one of the most expensive shoe purchases I think I’ve made, and the stupidest. For starters they absolutely kill your feet for weeks, think lacerated skin and blisters. Defies the point of wearing a flat sandal… And within 4 straight days of wear the leather under my toes started to rub off. I spoke to a few people who own a pair and the same happened to them. We often think ultra expensive means long-lasting, but I beg to differ in this case. The Row in particular seems to have this reputation for quality, based on their price point, but the jellyfish shoe drama and my personal experience will tell you otherwise.
To sum up, if you were thinking of buying them. Don’t.
Disclaimer, you really don’t need this many, I have a slight shoe addiction and I work in Fashion, a pair of heels and a flat maybe two is more than enough but invest in quality please, we are building our forever pieces.

The Ultimate Flip-Flop Guide:
The Chunky Thong
I adore my Loewe, it’s such a fun shoe very comfortable and sturdy. She will not break after 4 wears! Great casual/ cool shoe, I love them with cargos and a simple top or shirt.

The Minimal Leather Thong
Your chic elevated option, think Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy. I insist on leather as that’s what helps with feeling more elevated and dressy while being on the more casual side. It goes with literally anything and everything, a dress, a pair of jeans, cargos you name it. My personal favourite is the TKEES, they make many variations and are really affordable.

The Heeled Thong
Now this is my favourite version, she can take you many different ways and that’s why I love her. The key is the heel height, a low to mid heel something you can comfortably walk in. When I wear mine I instantly feel like a baddie, that’s the power of the heeled Thong. So please join the mouvement, and you’ll thank me later.
Whether you want to feel dressed up or make a simple outfit feel more special, she is your girl. I find my black pair to be the most versatile, so I focused this edit on that.
Studio Amelia £355, Simon Miller Beep Thong £370 , Magda Butrym £387
You may wonder where the humble Havainas is, but only the Copenhagen girlies seem to get away with wearing them in the City. So unless you are a Copenhagen girlie or dress like one, please leave her at the beach :)
If my love letter to Flip flops somehow influenced you to join the gang, send me a note. I would love to know how you are wearing them.
Have a lovely weekend and I will chat to you next week x
